Iskandar Regional Development Authorities (IRDA) is committed to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
in our pursuit of being “A Strong and Sustainable Metropolis of International Standing by 2025 and beyond.” The SDGs are a
set of 17 Goals made up of 169 indicators that covers areas including poverty, hungry, food security, health, quality
education, gender equality, water and clean sanitation, economic growth and urban city, responsible production and
consumption, climate change and biodiversity.

In Iskandar Malaysia, IRDA partners the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and United Nations Development Programme
to establish localised SDG indicators* for each Flagship Zone (FZ) in Iskandar Malaysia. An “FZ” is a catalyst development
area where priorities are given to the nine promoted sectors of Iskandar Malaysia. There are 5 Flagship Zones with the
preliminary shortlisted 25 localised SDG indicators for each flagship zone being measured to enable us to gather data and
feedback for new policies, plans and identify new business opportunities.

To ensure a holistic implementation of the SDGs, we work closely with five state municipalities within our area to mobilise resources
including manpower, capacity building, physical spaces, and funding. The municipal councils are Johor Bahru City Council,
Kulai Municipal Council, Iskandar Puteri City Council, Pontian District Council and Pasir Gudang Municipal Council. IRDA also
collaborates with the Federal Department of Town and Country Planning (PLAN) Malaysia, Malaysian Administrative Modernization
and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) to draw up policies for the Johor state government.
